On the **Business plan with monthly billing**, reaching a limit does not have to stop you. With **overage** on, SendOps lets you keep going and bills what you use beyond the plan's included amount at the end of the billing period. With overage off, Business limits are hard limits, the same as on Free and Team.

## What is metered

Overage applies to 11 limits. Each has its own rate, charged only on what you use above the included amount.

| Limit | Included | Overage rate |
|---|---|---|
| Seats | 25 | $5 per seat |
| Email templates | 200 | $0.50 per template |
| Sending domains | 50 | $2 per domain |
| Active workflows | 100 | $2 per workflow |
| Workflow enrollments per period | 2,000,000 | $0.25 per 1,000 |
| Saved segments | 500 | $1 per segment |
| Broadcasts per period | 2,000 | $0.50 per broadcast |
| Temporary inbox mints per period | 30,000 | $5 per 1,000 |
| Inbound domains | 10 | $5 per domain |
| Inbound messages per period | 100,000 | $1 per 1,000 |
| Image storage | 50 GiB | $0.50 per GiB |

Everything else on Business is a hard limit with no overage:

- **Contacts** (5,000,000) are a ceiling and are never charged. Contact support if you need more.
- **AWS accounts** (1), **website identity sites** (1) and **custom image domains** (5).
- **Live temporary inboxes** (500) and **verified senders** (100).

See [Plan limits](/billing/plan-limits) for every limit on every plan.

## Who has overage

Overage is available on Business **billed monthly through Stripe**:

- **Annual Business has no overage.** Overage is billed monthly, which can't be added to a yearly subscription, so every limit on an annual plan is a hard limit. Switch to monthly billing to use overage.
- **Workspaces billed through AWS Marketplace have no overage**, because the usage would never reach a SendOps invoice.
- **Free and Team have no overage.** Team can buy extra seats at $6 a month each; every other Team limit is lifted by moving to Business.

## The overage switch

Overage is **on** when a workspace moves to Business. To change it, go to **Billing** and use the **Overage** switch. You need to be able to manage billing to change it.

- **Turning it on** takes effect at once: limits that were refusing you stop refusing, and anything you add from then on is metered.
- **Turning it off** also takes effect at once: every Business limit becomes a hard limit again. **Overage you have already used this period is still billed** when the period closes. Turning the switch off stops new overage; it does not cancel what was already used.

When you reach a metered limit with overage off, the refusal tells you that turning overage on would let you continue, and at what rate.

  If your subscription goes past due after repeated failed payments, overage is suspended and the workspace is held to tighter limits until the payment goes through. See [Plan limits](/billing/plan-limits#when-a-payment-fails).

## How usage is measured

The 11 limits are measured in two ways.

**Per-period allowances** (workflow enrollments, broadcasts, temporary inbox mints and inbound messages) are counted as they happen and reset at the start of each billing period. You pay for the period's total above the included amount. For example, 2,300 broadcasts in one month is 300 over the allowance, which is $150.

**Standing counts** (seats, templates, sending domains, active workflows, segments, inbound domains and image storage) are snapshotted once a day, and also when you turn overage on and when your next invoice is drafted. You pay for the count at the **last snapshot of the period**, not the highest count during it. If you had 110 active workflows mid-month and 104 at the end, you pay for 4. Image storage is rounded up to the next whole GiB.

## Seeing it before you are billed

The **Overage** card on the **Billing** page shows **Estimated overage this period**: one line per metered limit with a charge, and a total. The estimate appears once Stripe drafts your next invoice, shortly before the period ends. If there is overage, billing admins also get an email with the same breakdown at that point.

The **Usage** card shows the running numbers all period. A row past its limit says how much is over and being billed as overage.

## On your invoice

Overage is charged on your regular monthly invoice, after the period it was used in, alongside the plan fee for the next period. Each metered limit with a charge is its own line item. Expand the invoice in **Billing → Invoices** to see them; they read like this:

```text
Overage — Active workflows (3 × $2.00)
Overage — Workflow enrollments (40 × $0.25 per 1,000)
Overage — CDN storage (2 × $0.50/GiB)
```

The number in brackets is the billed quantity above the included amount, in the limit's own unit.

## Changing plan

- **Moving to Business** turns overage on.
- **Moving from Business to Team or Free** turns it off. A downgrade takes effect at the end of the billing period, so the period's overage is still billed on the invoice at that boundary.
